The main objective of the Asia Pacific Conference was to generate new cross-disciplinary plans to advance the rule of law in the region. Utilizing data from the WJP’s groundbreaking Rule of Law IndexTM, lessons learned from the WJP’s Opportunity Fund programs, and the wealth of knowledge and experience of speakers and fellow colleagues through plenary and small working group sessions, participants developed concrete and realistic action plans to advance the rule of law in the Asia Pacific region.
I attended the working session on Protecting the Right to Land. The rule of law issues identified during this conference were:
- Indigenous people
- Women’s rights
- Land grabbing
- Access to legal systems
As a result of the conference, I feel I have a better understanding of the rule of Law and I am able to identify new ways in which I can strengthen the rule of law in my country. The content of the conference was stimulating and speakers were informative. I found many networks from the workshop who have expressed an interest to join with Strey Khmer on proposals on protecting right to land.
