SK Joins International Day of Peace Events

21 September 2011: As part of the Working Group for Peace (WGP), the Strey Khmer team joined the International Peace Day (IPD) at nun’s cottage located on Kep mountain, Kep province.

WGP has been working with local, regional and international NGOs, and communities to engage people from various religious and ethnic groups to work together to promote a culture of peace. So we the WGP, strongly consider the IPD one of the most important events for people around the world who are facing violence, war, civil war and suffering. We want to encourage and promote freedom, harmony and happiness both mental and physical. The WGP celebrates this event every year in order to globally build peace without discrimination. The International Day of Peace is used by the WGP to strongly support and celebrate sending messages of peace to the public.

This year, WGP collaborated with Muslim, Christian and Buddhism followers as well as the volunteer network/group in 7 provinces including: Preah Vihear, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Siem Reap, Kratie, Kampong Cham, Kep and Phnom Penh. They celebrated  IPD with the following objectives:

  • To observe the celebration of IPD, 21 September 2011;
  • To give the opportunity to participants in order to implement peace activities and to enhance a peaceful environment;
  • To give the opportunity to youth and supporters who make this IPD;
  • To draw public attention in an effort to build peace.
