Brief: SKO Team Visits Cambodian Domestic Workers in Malaysia

From the 8th until 10th of November 2011, a team from Strey Khmer accompanied by Mr. Moeun Tola, a Programme Manager in charge of Labour Programme of the Cambodian Legal Education Center, travelled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to conduct research on Cambodian (migrant) domestic workers’ situations and problems. During the visit, our team met with the Cambodian ambassador to Malaysia, as well as various grassroots NGOs who are working on migrant worker and trafficking issues.

The main purposes of our trip included: to build strong relationships with local organizations based in Malaysia, meet with Cambodian maids abroad to discuss their situations and needs, and to meet with a Malaysian domestic worker agency and urge them to commit to a bi-lateral agreement.

Further updates of the trip to follow.
