Workshop on Peaceful Demonstration

On December 1st, I attended a workshop on the Law of Peaceful Demonstration which was organized by United Nations office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNOHCHR) and the East-West Management Institute’s Program on Rights and Justice (EWMI-PRAJ). This Law was adopted by the National Assembly on October 21, 2009 and approved by the Senate in it’s entire form and substance without further revision on November 17, 2009.

The purpose of this Law is to assure freedom of expression for all Khmer citizens through peaceful demonstration, but this right shall not be used to abuse/affect the rights, freedom and honor of others, good customs of the national society, public order and national security.

There are 30 articles and the article I found most interesting and want you to know about is article 3 which clarifies that:
Educational dissemination activities include:
1. Training
2. Workshop
3. Public Forum
4. Press Conference
These points are not covered by this law, so we do not need to ask permission from the authorities.

For further more information please contact me, I have some documents which related to this Law.
