Mushroom growing is a good business for the people in Battambang Province. The women are able to run this operation instead of migrating to another country, as long as they have a small capital to start this business. With the assistance from WAVE to Strey Khmer, we were able to provide a loan to a group of 8 women. Among them, 3 women have been trained for a week about the business process. One volunteer has contributed her land for the group.
In July the group was formed with a clear understanding of the loan’s rule and a commitment to assist the members in the group. The goal of the operation is to create a strong group that can transform themselves to become economically independent in the future. As well, the group can create a forum for discussion on important women’s issues such as domestic violence, land rights, migration and women’s rights.
A 4-meter x 10-meter center has been built to keep the mushrooms in.
It takes 4 steps to grow mushrooms that can be sold at the market, and each step is about 28days.
