Tomorrow is International Women’s Day, and we are preparing for a busy day!
Last week community members from Boeung Kak Lake and Borei Keila met to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the Borei Keila Protestors and review future strategies. The group is working on collaborating to strengthen their voice. The Borei Keila victims are currently working to submit legal documents regarding the illegal detention of peaceful protestors at a detention center. Working together to have their voices heard has been very beneficial to both groups.
Tomorrow morning the staff will help sponsor a celebration of strength for the women and families of Boeung Kak Lake, who have spent over five years fighting for the return of their land.
The BK Lake women decided that there was no better day to celebrate their cause than a day meant to honor strong women!
In the afternoon the Strey Khmer team will be joining in an anti-violence campaign. We will help to spread awareness about violence against women and show support for those who have already suffered. The group will walk through areas of Phnom Penh that have had a history of reported violence against women.
Check back soon to see a review of the events and photos!
